A Reflection by Daneen
Hello my name is Daneen and I am a Master Stylist and Salon Manager for our Downtown Silver Spring location! Y’all, I say this a lot. In the beginning I didn’t understand the magnitude of this position.
After school, I never imagined that being a stylist would be my passion. Like a lot of stylist, I did hair most of my life. From cousins, to neighborhood friends to girls in my dorm. But it was just a hobby. After having my daughter, life took a different turn and now we’re here.
I am a Master Stylist and Salon Manager. I never thought I would be more than just a stylist.
I think it’s pretty awesome when someone sees something in you that you don’t see in yourself.
Changing my way of thinking has been my hardest challenge. For so long I’ve only had to worry about myself and making sure I’m doing everything I’m here to do. This position has forced me to not be selfish, to think ahead and think of my team and their needs and the needs of our clients and the salon. In the beginning it was pretty easy. Eventually things started to become overwhelming and I told myself that I couldn’t do this. I became my worst enemy in my head.
Planning and scheduling your life is so important. I’ve always been a -take it one day at a time- type of person. Changing that thinking has really help me improve my feeling of being overwhelmed and helped me focus on the task at hand.
2022 will be here before we know it. My theme for my team and myself is GREATNESS! I look forward to helping my stylist improve their crafts with trainings (the fun kind) team building activities and events for clients like Fast Hands!!!
Running a salon is NOT for the weak. It’s a lot of work but when you’re surrounded by a group of women that want to see you succeed it makes it so worth it. We all have the same goal and that makes all of this so rewarding.
If I could give any advice to anyone in my position it would be that it’s not going to be easy, don’t give up, be open to constructive criticism, know that you will make mistakes but learn from them, never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. You got this!
See you guys around!
