We know getting a good night's rest is one of the hardest things to do when you become an adult. You truly begin to miss those mid-afternoon naps we used to get in kindergarten that we took for granted. Now that adulthood is in full swing, sleep is definitely a hot commodity that can be a little difficult to come by, but worry not! Another easy way is to spray your pillow case with a mixture of 6 ounces of water and 1 drop of essentials, this method helps you save by using less essential oils. The best scents for sleeping are lavender, ylang ylang, bergamot, chamomile, sandalwood and marjoram. These scents are soothing and will lull to a comfortable slumber faster than you can count sheep!


Technology is a wonderful thing that helps accomplish even the simplest of tasks. Would you believe me if I told you there were apps that can help you fall asleep faster without distractions or interruptions? Well, you're in luck! Apps like Sleep With Me and Calm help you by offering pink noise or background sounds to help you drift off. Now instead of falling asleep to a distracting television or silence, you can be soothed to sleep. 


As much as technology may help us fall asleep, it can also make it harder because using your phone or tablet before bed can keep your brain wired all night! The best way to get a full night's rest is to power down your electronics and immerse yourself in pitch black darkness at least 30 minutes before bedtime. If this is harder because of your partner, try ear plugs and a mask at night to recreate this effect.


Science has proven that colder temperatures are better to sleep in. It is recommended that you set your thermostat for 65 degrees Fahrenheit before heading to sleep. If you're cold-natured, pile on a few warm, soft blankets. If you're hot-natured you can put your sheets in a ziploc bag and stick them in the freezer for an hour to cool them down. 


As some of you may know from personal experience, there are foods that keep you from getting a good night's rest. Foods like coffee, tomatoes and spicy foods will have you tossing and turning all night, but did you know there are foods that help you get rest? Bananas, almonds, honey, oatmeal, herbal tea and cherries are among a few of the many things you can eat to help you achieve the best sleep! Also remember not to consume anything heavy later than 2-3 hours before bedtime. Not eating close to your bedtime will ensure your food is properly digested and will prevent heartburn and indigestion, which can ruin a night of sweet dreams.
