Your Introduction To Locs

Hey guys! I'm Daneen - a Master loc-tician at N Natural Hair Studio. And today, we're talking about one of my favorite things to do…LOCS!!

Locs are rope-like strands of hair that are formed by mating. The earliest evidence of locs dates back to India in 1800BC. The first evidence of the style in Africa came around 500 BC. While locs have been around for millenia, in modern times the style saw a resurgence in popularity in the 1970s and we haven’t looked back since.

Locs take patience and dedication. Ask any of your loc’d friends and they will tell you allll about their “journey” because that’s exactly what it is.

People loc their hair for different reason, it could be spiritual, cultural or purely because you think they’re beautiful.

There are a few different types of locs

Traditional; which are medium to large

Sisterlocs; are a trademarked pattern style loc, about half the size of traditional locs.

Microlocs; extremely small locs that resemble strands of hair, usually installed using two strand twists.

Locs are a very low maintenance style.

Maintaining them is very simple.

Every two to three days in between appointments, mist your locs with leave in and a light oil to keep them moisturized and ALWAYS cover at night.

Stay tuned for more!
